Wildberry Estate is the result of a dream that has unfolded over more than three decades — a slow, patient collaboration between two generations and the mountain itself.

It began in 1992, with a modest stone house built into a secluded hillside on the edge of the natural forest. The site was chosen for a rare convergence: pine forest, mountain valley, and fresh mountain streams meeting in one quiet place. Even then, before anything more was built, there was a sense that this spot held something worth protecting.

But life rarely follows the plans we lay for it. The original vision for the house was never finished, and instead the stone structure found a different purpose. At times it served as a small village school, filled with the voices of local children. At others, like so many mountain buildings before it, it sheltered livestock through the changing seasons. Rather than standing empty, it became something the valley actually used — quietly woven into the daily life and memory of the community around it.

That changed in 2020, when the estate entered a new chapter. Tabassum Diwan and Khizar Diwan — two lifelong nature lovers — took on the restoration, guided by one central belief: that the past deserved to be built upon, not erased. The original stone foundations were preserved rather than replaced, and every new addition was designed around them, in conversation with what already stood there.

Stone, timber, and materials native to the Thandiani region shape the architecture, echoing the traditions of the valley rather than imposing something foreign onto it. The result feels less like a new build and more like a continuation — a home that has simply grown into its next form.

Today, Wildberry Estate carries all of that history within it: the schoolroom, the shelter, the decades of quiet presence beside the forest, and now, a mountain retreat. It is the realization of a dream three decades in the making, and we’re glad to share it with guests who value nature, privacy, and a place with a real story behind it.
